A wonderful museum and the flagship Dior boutique, 10,000m² in all – this month we show you fashion and luxury, with a visit that left us amazed and impressed.

Paris is, without a doubt, the most important city in the world for fashion, with fashion houses known across the globe: Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and… Dior.

Dior does have a boutique near our hotels in the le Bon Marché department store, and there are a few more scattered across town, but we would advise you to go check out their flagship store on avenue Montaigne near the Champs-Élysées, which shares the site with the Galerie Dior (or Dior Gallery), a museum about the life of the famous fashion designer and the empire he constructed.

In the building where the fashion house was founded, the visit explains the simple beginnings of Christian Dior (who died suddenly of a heart attack in 1957 at the age of 52), his visionary talent, how he built his brand and how he changed fashion forever.

The museum has a lot of interesting things to show, and the path through it sees visitors go upstairs, downstairs, through different buildings and eras, with some rooms very dark and others quite bright, some intimate and others vast. It’s a brilliant presentation, with just enough information without overwhelming you with lengthy texts or videos.

And of course, the visit ends with the museum’s gift shop (mostly books) and the Café Dior where you can enjoy a drink and a cake while feeling chic.

For the Galerie Dior, we advise you to book in advance, as while it’s technically possible to turn up without a ticket, this will almost certainly lead to a very long wait outside.

After your visit, you absolutely must check out the flagship Dior boutique next door on avenue Montaigne.

This huge space sells every type of Dior product – clothes for men, women and children of course, but also leather goods, perfume, interior design objects, jewellery, watches, haute couture creations…

If we’re to believe this article in French national newspaper Monde, the boutique is expected to have a turnover of 100 million euros per month.

Feeling a little fatigued? The store’s pâtisserie (café) awaits under a huge glass stricture filled with natural light.

Feeling very hungry? The store’s restaurant known as Monsieur Dior is open from Saturday to Thursday.
