Summer events in the Jardin du Luxembourg until 22nd September 2024

Summer is well and truly here, and with it the kind of warmth that’s both welcome and sometimes challenging. Come with us then to the Jardin du Luxembourg – super close to all the hotels in our collection – for some respite from the heat, but also a whole summer season of exhibitions, guided visits, concerts and special events for the next Open House weekend.

Summer in the Jardin du Luxembourg until 22nd September 2024

If you imagine the Jardin du Luxembourg as a magnificent green space in the centre of the city, calm and full of flowers, you are absolutely right (and if you want to take a look at some of our favourite secret spots there, our article is full of them). However, the garden is also a wonderful cultural centre, with a whole programme for the summer!

The experience starts even before you enter. On the railings of one part of the garden (map below) there are frequent exhibitions of large photos. The next one about glassblowers starts on 21st September 2024 (runs until 19th January 2025) with 80 photos showing the skills of 32 workshops throughout France. Glassblowing has recently been given the status of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO.

In the garden’s Orangery, the exhibitions (sculpture, painting, photos, design…) change every ten days, and there are at least a dozen lined up before the end of the holidays! More info here.

The garden also has a second exhibition space called the Pavillon Davioud. The current exhibition The Olympic Games in Paris: yesterday and today finishes at the end of July, but there are three more coming in the next few weeks: photos of the bridges of Paris by Marianne Ström, paintings of the sea by Anne Morgann and other paintings of the Côte d’Azur by Marie-Amélie Saunier.

If you want to discover the garden with one of the gardeners, a free guided visit (in French of course) is organised on the first Wednesday of every month (and every Wednesday in June). The next ones are on 7th August, 4th September and 2nd October. The visit starts at the entrance at 4 rue Auguste Comte (here) at 9.30am, and there’s plenty to see!

And for music fans, there’s a programme of concerts held at the garden’s bandstand. More details here.

If you’re in Paris towards the end of September, you shouldn’t miss Open House weekend on 21st & 22nd, when you’ll be able to visit the Luxembourg Palace (the Senate), the Petit Luxembourg (home to the President of the Senate) and the garden’s nursery and hothouses. We went a few years back, and it was great!
