Christmas is in full swing in Paris, and in the ‘Grands Boulevards’ neighbourhood, the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps department stores are doing their absolute best to get you to come down and buy something from them (rather than their rivals).

Part of this exercise in seduction is the animated window displays that kids love. They’re often great fun to go and see with the family, and there are little raised galleries in front of each window so that even the smallest of children can get a clear view.

This year, once again, the windows are very cleverly constructed and animated, with lots of colour, music and… quite a few brand-name sponsors hoping to catch your eye!

Nonetheless, it’s a great cheap attraction – there’s no obligation to go in-store and buy anything, but if you do, we suggest you get there early to avoid the crowds (both stores open at 10am). P.S. We think the best start to any day of shopping in Paris is probably with a great breakfast in one of our hotels!

From now until Christmas Eve 2022, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (here) and Printemps (here) are open every day except Sundays from 10am-8.30pm, and Sunday from 11am-8pm
