Le Flow is a boat moored on the Left Bank of the Seine just next to the Alexandre III bridge, easily the most beautiful in the city (and our favourite spot for watching the Bastille Day fireworks display).

The venue’s launch this summer was pushed back when the Seine rose to surprising levels (in the middle of June!) but everything’s fine now, and the boat now houses a successful concert space which can also serve as a nightclub, a rooftop terrace and a smart restaurant.

We wanted to make sure that the food wasn’t just an afterthought. As it happens, we had one of our best meals of the year!

Here’s our review.

The banks of the Seine on the Left Bank were pedestrianised a few years back, and what was once an urban motorway is now an agreeable spot for a walk, there’s a floating garden (closed at night), activities for kids…

In the evening, numerous bars and restaurants are open, and for once there are no neighbours to annoy. It’s easy to see why people flock here especially during the summer months.

Even in the winter, with the Eiffel Tower nearby and the lights of the city reflected in the river, it’s pretty magical. Even the entrance to the RER train is chic!

La Table du Flow, the restaurant, is the work of young chef Geoffrey Rembert and Michelin-starred chef Gérard Cagna, and it has to be said that their space has superb views.

The restaurant has a long bar and numerous tables riverside, looking directly over the Seine. The view of the Alexandre III bridge and the Grand Palais is jaw-dropping, and our evening was punctuated by the lights of all the boats passing by during your meal…

Some crunchy bread was placed on our table and we started to peruse the menu, containing five first courses and six mains.

Our choice to start was a seasonal vegetable soup served with a ‘vegetable focaccia’, and a small dish of snack-style scallops.

The soup was tasty and served with a drizzle of olive oil, but it was outshined by the vegetables accompanying it – a raw and marinaded selection with both sweet and savoury tastes, exuberantly presented.

The scallop salad (perfectly cooked and smelling delicious) perfectly mixed the crunch of the vegetables with the smoothness of the mousse. Small balls of fine choucroute added an unusual touch. Things were off to a great start!

By asking for a vegetarian alternative for a main dish, we weren’t expecting something as clever to arrive – it’s rare for a chef to impress us to this degree.

Although the photo may look like a random selection of vegetables, some of them were fried, some steamed or boiled. This gave the dish a wide variety of  textures, smells and tastes. Each element was to be savoured…

The cod was equally impressive with its small cubes of preserved celery and – most of all – an amazing, crunchy circle perfumed with liquorice. Looking much like coral, it was perfectly in theme with the fish and decorative scallop.

Tasty, creamy, soft but firm and beautiful to look at, we were instantly won over.

Would dessert be as impressive? Incredibly, the chefs did not disappoint. The carrot and beetroot crumble was as colourful as it was crunchy and sweet. And what an original dish!

As for the chocolate dessert, it really was outstanding. The main piece looked like a large macaroon (but with more crunch) and the graphic presentation was a work of art in itself. Absolutely superb.

The Flow has two sittings for dinner, and we would suggest opting for the second on, even though it starts at 10pm. The end of your meal will be calmer as the place empties, and you’ll be able to stay on for a drink or even move on to the nightclub downstairs if you wish.

For an amazing meal with an amazing view, the Flow is an evening to remember. And as it’s not far from our hotels, returning to your lovely room will be super simple.
