The Cluny Museum close to our hotels is opening a new exhibition showing how the Middle Ages inspire contemporary art, featuring over a dozen works displayed within the museum’s permanent collection.

It’s not surprising that the gargolyes, sea monsters and hybrid creatures of the Middle Ages have inspired many an artist over the years. After all, medieval settings are to be found in numerous books, films and TV series, with imposing castles, epic battles and – of course – more dragons than you can shake a stick at.

Part of a programme of events called Berserk & Pyrrhia Contemporary and medieval art organised by Frac Île-de-France (the Paris area fund for contemporary arts), Summoning Chimeras shows works inspired by the imagery of that era, with creations from Jacopo Belloni, Corentin Darré, Erik Dietman, Frederik Exner, Richard Fauguet, Alison Flora, Diego Giacometti, Youri Johnson, Lou le Forban, Marion Verboom and Xolo Cuintle.

Late night opening the first and third Thursday of each month from 6.16-9pm (last ticket at 8.30pm) at the special rate of 10€
