Franck Desplanques, a professional photographer specialising in native peoples for over three decades, opens a new (free!) exhibition – Hommage at Quai de la Photo, a venue actually on the Seine (with its own boat dock and river tours 😳) not far from our hotels.

For his new exhibition, organised in collaboration with the French TV programme Rendez-vous en terre inconnue (where a celebrity is taken to a remote, little-known location without being told where it will be) Franck Desplanques attempts to tell the stories of isolated indigenous families and widen our way of seeing, sometimes with black and white images that are part negatives, sometimes with oversaturated colour images.

You’ll learn more about Inughuit from Greenland, the Mentawai from Indonesia, the Suri and Afar of Ethiopia, the Kogi of Colombia and Dolpopa of Nepal, their lives (and their approach to living, in sharp contrast with our own), their spirituality and their ingenuity in often extreme climates…

Free guided visits of the free exhibition are on offer every day from Wednesday-Sunday at 12.30, 2.30, 4.30 and 6.30pm, and an official catalogue has just been published: 242 pages (25€) with not only photos but also interviews with specialists, ethnologists, photographers and representatives of NGOs, and good way to better understand and preserve these threatened cultures.

And for the public opening event on 10th January (from 6pm onwards), Desplanques will be present to sign the catalogue!
