The great photo festival organised in our neighbourhood each year is back for its 13th edition, utilising both indoor venues (galleries, bookshops, and even the wild History of Medicine Museum) and outdoor spaces (like the banks of the Seine), and as always, it’s free!

Here comes one of our favourite cultural events of the year, happening all over Saint-Germain-des-Prés where you’ll find our hotels – the free Saint Germain Photo Festival, and this year has just as many interesting propositions as usual, in quite a few interesting places.

Near the Hotel & Spa la Belle Juliette at the Penninghen School (here) you can see photos by Arkhè (in ancient Greek: ἀρχή / arkhḗ), but strangely only from 30th October – 3rd November 2024 😬

Just next to the Hotel Baume and Hotel Design Sorbonne there’s:

— Mélissa Cornet & Kiana Hayeri at the Réfectoire des Cordeliers (here) with their series showing women and girls in Afghanistan since the return of the taliban, work they wont them the 14th Carmignac Photojournalism Prize, and

— L’enfance aliénée sous l’œil du Docteur Bourneville, odd photos of old medical techniques from between 1879 and 1909, presented in the surprising and rather wonderful setting of the Museum of the History of Medecine (here).

Two minutes away from the Hotel des Grands Hommes and Hotel les Dames du Panthéon at the Irish Cultural Centre (here), Sharon Murphy presents her series Mise en abyme, showing sad scenes of Parisian merry-go-rounds and theatres.

The public opening party is on the 7th November, with the photographer in conversation with Trish Lambe, director of the Photo Museum Ireland at 5.30pm. The exhibition proper opens 8th November.

And if you’re staying at the lovely Hotel Saint-André des Arts then you’re in luck – there are at least twenty great photo exhibitions less than five minutes away!
