The Jacquemart-André Museum reopens after a year of renovation with a new exhibition and opera nights

The summer holidays are truly over, and one of the most exciting events for this new season in Paris is the reopening of the Jacquemart-André Museum after an interior facelift that has seen the venue closed for just over a year.

The museum now has some extra exciting new things on offer:

— a new exhibition called Masterpieces from the Borghese Gallery,

— new info stations for the exhibitions (touchscreens, a film about the place’s history…),

— a new restaurant completely renovated to better show its gorgeous ceiling and 18th century tapestries, and

— special events, like opera nights

The Jacquemart-André Museum is one of those Parisian culture spots that are worth going to see as much for the place as for the exhibition on offer. Now, after a year of renovation work, it’s really time to go back and see it in all its glory!

The main attraction, apart from the museum’s stunning period interior, is the new temporary exhibition with forty masterpieces from the Borghese Gallery in Rome, which itself is currently closed for renovation, allowing its collection to travel like never before.

The exhibition will explain how Scipion Borghese (1577-1633) became such a huge collector and patron of the arts while showcasing some of the works in question, being shown together outside of Italy for the first time ever.

For further details on certain pieces, audioguides are available to listen to during your visit, and a French-language catalogue is being published on 20th September (208 pages, 40€ here at your local amazon).

But this special exhibition is just one reason for returning to the Jacquemart-André museum.

The restaurant / café has been completely restored, and ow hosts afterworks on Friday evenings, offers brunch and afternoon tea at the weekend, and has special Sunday morning sessions for kids.

The museum’s impressive staircase has also been completely restored for the first time ever.

And opera nights will soon be on offer in the museum, with performances happening in the evening when the museum is closed, with La Traviata and Rigoletto on offer. You’ll be seated with the actors walking closely around you, a really exceptional experience that possibly / probably explains the price of 235€ per person. Oh, and you’ll need to be smartly dressed accordingly.

Sounds like there are some very convincing reasons to return to the Jacquemart-André museum. Don’t miss it!
