Eva Jospin – Versailles exhibition at the Château de Versailles Orangery until 29th September 2024

Artist Eva Jospin is showing a huge embroidery piece over 107 metres long – Chambre de soie (Silk Room) – in the stunning setting of the Orangery of the Château de Versailles.

And if you like her work, you might like to know that you can currently see it in two other places in Paris: her cardboard sculptures are being shown in the Marais neighbourhood (until September) and a huge permanent work on the facade of a new metro station opening before the end of the month…

We’ve already mentioned artist Eva Jospin a couple of times on the blog – one of her pieces can be found in Beaupassage, a collection of high-end boutiques and restaurants near our hotels, and show has regular art shows in Paris.

For her new show at the Château de Versailles, she is showing a side of her work that is not seen so much: dense embroidery full of colour and often on a vast scale. This piece is called Chambre de soi (Sil Room) and was partly inspired by Virginia’Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own. Spanning 350m², the piece was previously shown for just a few days in 2021, in a temporary building in the gardens of the Rodin Museum used for a Dior fashion show.

For the new presentation at the Orangery at Versailles, Jospin has added two new embroidered panels inspired by the chateau’s gardens. In all, over 400 shades of silk were needed for the piece, and it is being presented one just one wall for the very first time (whereas it wrapped around the room at the Rodin Museum).

It’s also the first time that a contemporary piece has been shown inside the Orangery.

This striking presentation may make you want to seek out more of Jospin’s work in the city. If so, you’re in luck!

The Galleria Continua in the Marais (here) is showing Tromper l’œil, cardboard sculptures by Jospin, until 14th September 2024.

Elsewhere, as part of the extension of automatic metro line 14 to Orly airport (opens 24th June 2024), the station Hôpital Bicêtre designed by architect Jean Paul Viguier will be embellished by an 8-metre high concrete work by Jospin, apparently inspired by the film Fellini Roma.
