We Are Here exhibition at the Petit Palais until 17th November 2024

For the first time, the Petit Palais museum is allowing street art inside its walls, mixing pieces from their collections with works by Shepard Fairey, Invader, Add Fuel and over sixty other artists.

And it’s free!

This marks the first time that an important Parisian museum has celebrated street art on the same level as its own collections – We Are Here – an exploration of street art often inspired by the rebelliousness of classic art.

At the Petit Palais, for which admission is free, you can see works by contemporary street artists juxtaposed with (or ‘in a subtle dialogue with’ as the official website puts it) the classic paintings and sculptures of the museum. Paris has always been one of the birthplaces of the avant-garde, but the exhibition reminds us that it is still essential that we push back and redefine the limits of what is considered ‘art’.

For example, after a rather low-key initial presentation, walking through the rooms eventually leads to the Concorde Room, filled to the ceiling with the works of over sixty different street artists!

To aid your visit, a free app called WAH (We Are Here) is available for iOS and Android, with augmented reality and extra info about the artists and their works.

There’s also a book that accompanies the exhibition, called We Are Here, le salon des refusés ou la revanche du street art, (240 pages, 49€), but for some strange reason it isn’t being published until the exhibition ends in November 2024 😳 🤷
