Now a popular series of books, the colorised photos of John Breslin and Sarah-Anne Buckley are featured in a new free exhibition at the Irish Cultural Centre very close to our hotels.

The Old Ireland in Colour books have become quite the phenomenon since the first volume was published back in 2020, and have now sold tens of thousands of copies. Using archive images from the collections of museums and libraries, academics Sarah-Anne Buckley and John Breslin add colour using new digital techniques.

Meticulous research goes into choosing the colours used for the clothes, hair and even eyes! This allows us to see authentic scenes of Irish daily life in the 19th and 20th centuries, a world that no longer exists…

There are now three volumes of the Old Ireland in Colour books, and this new exhibitions shows a selection of photos from them. To peek into Ireland’s past, start here 🙂
