Quai de la Photo, a new photo gallery (and bar, and restaurant) on the Seine, opens 20th July 2023

Not far from our hotels, moored on the Seine just in front of the BNF (National Library), Quai de la Photo is a new arts centre dedicated to contemporary photography, avec 1.000m² of exhibition spaces, a restaurant, several bars, a terrace, a bookshop, a marina with boat trip on the Seine that leave from inside the structure 😲

… and all the exhibitions, including the inaugural one by Martin Parr (Life’s A Beach), are free!

Quai de la Photo looks like a really interesting project!

A boat has been designed specially for it and moored on the Seine, offering a couple of exhibition spaces and spot to relax (bars, restaurant, terrace) as well as a surprising indoor marina where you can board a small boat and be taken on a tour on the Seine (for a price, obviously).

As well as the free exhibitions (with our without a guide), you can attend a workshop to learn about photography, meet photographers for conferences or book launches…

There are two exhibitions on offer for the opening, I Called her Lisa Marie by Clémentine Schneidermann, with wild photos photos mostly taken at the annual Porthcawl Elvis Festival, and Life’s A Beach by Martin Parr, holiday snaps highlighting the absurd and bizarreness of certain types of vacationing.

Both are free and open until 24th September 2023 (the Martin Parr show opens 20th July).

During your visit, be sure to drop by the on-site bookshop La Comète, which has a great selection of photo books on offer, and if you are hungry or thirsty you’re in luck – there’s a terrace on the quay for drinks and another on the boat (with a view of the Seine), where you’ll also find the restaurant with organic French produce, open from midday seven days a week.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the venue is its boat tours!

You can rent a boat for up to twelve people, and board from inside the venue. The boats are all authentic vintage, and tours can be customised, for photo-taking or just sightseeing. Prices are yet to be announced – bookings open in a few days’ time.

So, art, relaxation, food and drink… Quai de la Photo is quite the package! We can’t wait to go down and took a look…
