Photo Days Festival in over 100 venues in Paris until 11th December 2022

November is packed full of photo events in Paris – Photo Saint-Germain, Paris Photo and… the relatively new festival Photo Days which is back for its third edition.

There are over 100 exhibitions to see in galleries and museums, as well as some more unusual places like the Sorbonne Artgallery inside the Sorbonne University, very close to our hotels.

Let’s take a look at what’s happening near us…

Photo Days may not have the high profile of other photo festivals in Paris, but it’s growing every year and has some interesting propositions for you, some of which are exclusive to the festival, with others on offer in collaboration with (for example) Photo Saint-Germain.

One of the festival’s own exhibitions is 1994 by Pieter Hugo at the Sorbonne Artgallery, which is accessed from the place du Panthéon (here) less than a minute away from the Hotel des Grands Hommes and Hotel les Dames du Panthéon, featuring touching photos of post-apartheid children in South Africa and Rwanda.

Among the other institutions and museums taking part on the left Bank are:

la Maison de l’Amérique latine (here) with a selection of photos by Gisèle Freund (1908-2000).

the Maison de Balzac (here) giving a first ever look at their collection of photos…

— and the Quai Branly Museum (here) with installations by Dinh Q. Lê based on photos.

One of the strangest options is Collection W. (here) which has an exhibition called “Privaat” by Egyptian artist Aalam Wassef, who retouches and alters photos of tyrants and dictators.

To see them, you’ll have to call +33 6 89 14 90 60 to book a date and time, and they’ll give you the door code so you can get into the building! #wow

Of course there are a lot more venues participating on the Left Bank (like the Secret Gallery and our lovely friends from the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, both of which are close to the Hotel & Spa la Belle Juliette), with even more to explore on the other side of the Seine should you so wish.
