The Saint-Germain Photo Festival, until 19th November 2022

Our favourite local photo festival is back with a great line-up!

Photo Saint-Germain (as it is helpfully called) offers around thirty different exhibitions in the neighbourhood around nos hotels, with some surprisingly big names on offer (Martin Parr, William Klein, Andy Warhol…) and an independent publisher fair that looks very tasty indeed!

Once again, photo lovers will be pleased and stimulated by the exhibitions on offer during Photo Saint-Germain, a festival now in its 11th year and centred in the areas around our hotels!

This year, around thirty spaces are taking part (galleries, museums, cultural centres…), and while there are many new faced to check out, some tried and tested names are immediately noticeable.

Like Martin Parr at the Irish Cultural Centre, showing forty years of photos of Ireland (runs until 8th January 2023).

The public opening evening on 10th November is free for everyone from 6.30-9pm. Martin Parr will be present for a conversation with Ailbhe Greaney at 5.30pm, followed by a signing session of the book Martin Parr: From the Pope to a Flat White; Ireland 1979-2019 which will also be on sale (otherwise, you’ll find it at your local Amazon here here).

At 8pm it’ll be time for music, with electronic artist Liam McCartan playing live, and the Burger Boss food truck to help keep your energy going!

At Galerie Chenel, until 10th December you’ll be able to check out Moments by Andy Warhol, with a selection of Polaroids and prints from the 1970s / 80s, presented together with the gallery’s marble sculptures (an odd idea, but why not eh?)

Two series will be on show – Interiors and Sex Parts & Torsos, so expect nudity that some will find positively scandalous 🔥😊

Elsewhere, publisher Delpire & Co is celebrating their new ‘cine-novel’ based on William Klein’s classic 60s film, Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?(Robert Delpire produced the film in 1966).

The book (available here at your local Amazon) contains images and dialogue from the film, and these are also used to create an exhibition in the publishers bookshop. French speakers can check out extracts and more info about the project (PDF) here.

The full list of exhibitions can be found here, and the map of venues is here, but Photo Saint-Germain is more than just exhibitions.

For example, check out Polycopies, a independent publisher fair held on a boat on the Seine called the Concorde Atlantique (here), with 80 publishers, and other guest publishers on certains days, plus round table talks, book signings, readings…

All the info can be found here.
