For the first time in 50 years in France, the most famous Spanish modernismo architect, Antoni Gaudí, is the subject of an exhibition, at the Musée d’Orsay close to our hotels.

You’ll be able to see examples of his incredible work in a dizzying number of domains – forged iron, furniture, ceramics, extravagant houses and of course his work still in progress, the Sagrada Família…

In the early 20th century when art nouveau (or modernismo) was at its height, the main exponents were Victor Horta in Bruxelles and Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona.

This new exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay explains the latter’s creative process and his sophisticated working techniques, applied to architecture (hotels, parks and of course churches) but also astonishing ceramic tiles, wild-looking furniture and even door handles.

You’ll see examples of his work that would be impossible to view otherwise, like large-scale woodwork pieces for the entrance of a house, and the gate for the first house Gaudí designed in Barcelona, the Casa Vicens.

Films, photos and period documents give further information about this crazily-creative but short-lived period – the 1930s saw the arrival of the more angular art deco style, and art nouveau quickly went out of fashion.
