Our friends at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, super close to our hotels, have a new exhibition of work by Swiss photographer René Groebli (who is now 94!), a look back at the masterpieces of his best-known series.

You can hardly say that René Groebli is a new talent – he first garnered attention in 1949 with his series “La Magie du Rail” documenting a steam train journey in gorgeous black and white, but quickly left the world of photo reporting behind to pursue more personal projects.

The technical side of photography also fascinated him – his avant-garde experimentation of colour development soon earner him an international reputation, especially in the world of advertising.

The exhibition at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff presents around fifty photos from the master photographer in gorgeous original prints.

With his special sense of framing and drama accentuated by rich black and white (and occasionally colour), it seems that René Groebli still has a lot to amaze us with…
