The famous American photographer Steve McCurry has a large retrospective on offer at the Maillol Maillol, near our hotels, with over 150 large-format prints of his portraits.

You perhaps know McCurry from his 1984 portait of Sharbat Gula – “Afghan girl” – but over his more than 40 years of career, there are many others of his works that you may have missed.

The Maillol Museum is where you can currently discover over 150 large prints of portraits by the artist, taken around the world – Italy, Brazil, the United States, Cuba, Afghanistan, Africa, India…

The Museum claims that this is the first time that so many of McCurry’s photos have been presented together in this way, and is thus the most comprehensive retrospective of his work even seen.

Whether that is true or not, the presentation of huge prints in a dark setting lends them even more force. Some photos are even being shown for the first time apparently…

If you particularly love any of the photos on show, you might like to know that one of the organisers of the exhibition, Sudest 57 (whose boss is coincidentally the curator) is also an agency that represent’s McCurry’s work, and offers anyone with deep enough pockets the possibility to order a ‘limited edition’ print.
