You may not know, but 2021 is ‘the year of Napoleon’ (explaining why there are currently exhibitions about him at both the Army Museum and La Villette). A Night at Invalides (la Nuit aux Invalides) is an outdoor show of projections accompanied by music, and this year their show – Flight of the Eagle – is also about Napoleon!

And it’s not far from our hotels!

A mainstay of the Paris summer schedule since 2012, la Nuit aux Invalides is back for its 9th edition, a 50-minute show that will take you through the life of Emperor Napoleon and show the incredible heritage his era has left us.

The 4K HD projections are mapped onto the spectacular setting of the Invalides ‘cour d’honneur’, the sound surround the viewers, and headsets are available to translate the French narration into English (which is great, but they will cost you 5€ each) 😕

For an extra 9€ you’ll be able to visit Napoleon’s tomb after the show, specially illuminated for the occasion, with presentations of a few people linked to Napoleon, such as Vauban, Lyautey and Foch.

If neither the headset or tomb visit take your fancy, the show alone costs 18€ if you stand and 25€ for a seat (these figures are for online bookings. It’s 2€ extra if you pay at the door). If you don’t book online and want to watch the show sitting down with the English commentary, followed by a visit Napoleon’s tomb, the night will cost you 41€ 😳

You should also note that the event requires everyone to fulfil the health requirement for large gatherings: a negative PCR or antigenic test no more than 48 hours old, or proof of full vaccination. Check the website for more info.
