Photography at the Hotel du Panthéon – Elene Usdin

You already know that we love photography at HPRG, thanks to our annual photo prize and exhibition, the photo project and site PHPA, and all the photos in the corridors of the Hôtel Design Sorbonne.

The now frankly splendid new Hotel du Panthéon, which has just reopened after complete renovation, is no exception. Each level has different photos to illustrate the floor’s particular theme, and the whole décor of the hotel is based around the idea of ‘great women’ (after all the Pantheon – resting place of France’s ‘great men’ – is just opposite, and the Hôtel des Grandes Hommes is next door).

Today we show you photos by the talented Elene Usdin. It’s not the first time we’ve worked together – Elene has two photos on show in the main salon at la Belle Juliette, and she also created the carte blanche for PHPA in 2011. We really love her work.

For the new Hotel du Panthéon, she has created a series of works for the main staircase, each reflecting the theme of the floor on which it is situated (Piaf, George Sand, Juliette Gréco, the ‘Signares’…) and each using the same model. Astonishingly, apart from the faces, almost all the elements are painted! It’s beautiful work that you’ll soon be able to admire up close on each floor of the Hotel du Panthéon.
