Eileen Gray exhibition at the Pompidou Centre
until 20th May 2013

Working in both decorative arts and modernist architecture, Eileen Gray has a massive retrospective currently at the Pompidou Centre…

After starting to express herself through painting, Eileen Gray moved into creating lacquered panels in the early 20th century. This work continued to expand, and before long she was creating furniture and being considered a comprehensive interior designer, capable of creating lacquered items, wooden furniture, curtains, lamps, sofas, mirrors, floor coverings…

In collaboration with Jean Badovici, she created the ‘villa E-1027‘, recognised as one of the masterpieces of modernism. Although her work was as one point forgotten, she was rediscovered and rehabilitated in the 1960s, and now this Parisian retrospective pays full hommage to her diverse, avant-garde talents.
