Exhibition The floating universe of Paul Jacoulet at the Quai Branly Museum from 26 February 19 May 2013

French artist Paul Jacoulet (1896-1960) arrived in Japan in 1899, not knowing that he was going to spend the majority of his life there. A portrait artists, he started using the ukiyo-e style and travelled widely, not only throughout Japan but also to Korea and China.

Cette exposition montre 160 aquarelles, dessins et estampes tirés d’une donation de plus de 2.950 pièces par la fille adoptive de l’artiste…Presented in several themed sections en plusieurs parties (The travelling artist, Toward the light of the Micronesian islands, The art of tattooing, The art of finery, Intimacy…), the exhibition will help you discover the artist’s creative universe while explaining his personal journey, and finishes with a presentation of some of the objects he used to draw with (pencils, brushes, travel notebooks, pigments, etc.)To increase your knowledge of the artist, a catalogue is being published (352 pages, 1180 illustrations, 49€, available here on amazon.fr). Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday from 11am – 7pm, ticket office opens 9.30am (10.30 Sunday) and closes 6pm, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11am – 9pm, ticket office opens 9.30am and closes at 8pm
