Beaujolais Nouveau night on 18th November 2010

It’s become one of the year’s most popular advertising/drinking sessions, but not without its fitfalls (like finding yourself in a dive bar with half sozzled, loud-mouths). We have a quick tip to make sure you have a fun evening and avoid the gnarly stuff…Once a year, on the third Thursday of November, it’s time to paaaar-tay: Beaujolais Nouveau is here. Again! Although the event makes no effort to conceal its main aim of trying to sell you slightly rough wine, that doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate in style. Have no fear, slurping Beaujolais Nouveau doesn’t have to make you look like a clueless tourist.

Our suggestion is to go to the drinks thing organised by the Spring Boutique (here) starting 6pm. They are bringing up to Paris a wine producer with a large barrel of Gamay wine that has been produced without sulfites, a funnel and a machine to put the corks in the bottles. Tasting is best done with a bowl of organic onion soup from the Spring restaurant. Now there’s a good idea. And what else wan we suggest? Well, we’re not sure if there’s anything in particular going on there, but you can be sure of a good photo op on the very sweet rue du Beaujolais just behind Palais Royal. Otherwise, the really cool kids won’t be drinking Beaujolais at all. Instead, they’ll be dancing the night away to Ivan Smagghe at the Rex (here) or Cassius at the Social Club (here). Bonne soirée!
