Claude Levy-Strauss by Bruno de Monès

One of the portraits in the exhibition currently being held near the Théatre de l’Odéon (all the details are in our article here). Click through to read the story behind the photo…

Claude Levi-Strauss (1908-2009), French anthropologist, ethnologist and philosopher, at home. Paris, September 1985.

Photo commissioned by Magazine Littéraire and taken at his home. I’d noticed a head (a Jivaroan Indian?) and suggested to set a scene up with it. Very co-operative for the photos. Acted with and gave off a natural nobility. Not a hint of arrogance from this amazing world-famous anthropologist.

The Bruno de Monès exhibition continues until 26th June 2010.
