The Bastille Day Parade 2009 on the Champs Elysées

You’ll have to get up early if you want to see this grandiose and slightly disturbing event: show starts at 8.45am! Here are all the details…

Yes, if you arrive on time at the Champs Elysées you’ll be able to see marching soldiers, firemen, cars, traucks, lorries, a whole slew of tanks, and in the air (probably the most spectacular part of the parade) there will be planes both small and large (nearly a hundred), helicopters, parachutists…

To close the parade, the Republican Guard will march down the most beautiful avenue in the world.

And this year, the guest country of honour is India, with three regiments from the army, marines and air forces. 450 Indian soldiers in national uniform, accompanied by Indian music. Cool! At last, a little light entertainment!

If you’re going by public transport, be careful as some stations and bus line have special opening hours and routes that day:

The following metro stations will be closed from 8am to midday:
– Tuileries (Line 1).
– Concorde (Lines 1, 8 & 12) except for the entrance on rue Saint Florentin (you can still change lines here though).
– Franklin D.Roosevelt (Lines 1 & 9). No changing between lines.
– Charles de Gaulle Etoile (Lines 1, 2, 6 & RER A) except for the entrance on avenue Carnot.
Bus lines that are deviated or stopped between 6.45am and midday: 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 38, 42, 43, 52, 58, 63, 65, 66, 67, 72, 75, 76, 80, 82, 86, 87, 91, 92, 94, 95, 96, PC1, PC3 & Roissybus.
