Walk round the Eiffel Tower… in snowshoes!

More Xmas madness in Paris…

Despite talking about Xmas since the end of October, I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t got all my presents organised yet, and Xmas is next week! However, I think I’ll find time in my busy schedule to go up the Eiffel Tower for what must be the silliest Xmas-themed activity so far.

There’s a new (free) photo exhibition “Visit the Arctic Regions” around the balcony of the first floor, made up of 80 photos of life at the North Pole in the 21st Century, as well as some short films showing exactly what it’s like. To give the exhibition an extra authentic feel, the 300-metre exhibition trail has been laid with heavy (fake) snow, and snow shoes will be lent to you in order to walk round, with Paris as the backdrop! (this all takes place 57 metres above ground level).

There’s also the Umiak Ice Bar, with the bar actually made out of ice, and life-sized sculptures of Arctic animals to wonder at. Sounds mad! I have to see this…

Here’s all the essential information for the Visit the Arctic Regions exhibition 57 metres up the Eiffel Tower!

When: 19th December 2007 – 31st January 2008
Where: 1st floor of the Eiffel Tower (are you paying attention?)
Opening times: 9.30am – 11.45 every single day of the year
How much: The exhibition (and borrowing of snow shoes) is free, but it’ll cost you 4.50 euros (adults) or 2.30 euros (children under 12) to take the lift up to the first floor.
I’m feeling sporty… and poor: take the stairs! (not as bad as it sounds). Only 4 euros for adults and 3.10 euros for under 25s. This allow you access to the 2nd floor too. Well worth it…
