The new breakfast room and photo project at the Hôtel de la Sorbonne

To go with the the new décor, we’ve commissioned a special set of photos of Paris to get your day off to the right start!

The exceptional new look for the Sorbonne continues into the new breakfast room. Bigger (we’ve knocked a wall through), brighter (flashy furnishings) and more modern (with a twist), all the room was lacking was a few photos. After all the whole hotel has a photo theme (check out the corridors on each floor and you’ll see).

And so, the Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche commissioned 21 photos of Paris monuments from its resident blogger and contributing photographer, JasonW. Here’s what he has to say about the project:

I’ve been living in Paris for over 15 years now, and its monuments never cease to amaze me. Cycling across the Louvre or near the Eiffel Tower still just as impressive. Personally, I never get tired of seeing these sights, but postcard-style photos of them are everywhere here. There’s a very lazy way to show Paris and I wanted to avoid that as much as possible.

You could call this series of photos “short-sighted sightseeing”. It’s like whenever I take off my glasses; everything is fuzzy and beautiful. Hopefully, showing the monuments this way will give you a taste of them without spoiling the surprise of how breathtaking they are close up. You may not even recognise some of them here, which I think is great! If you’re at the hotel, hopefully you will profit from the city and get to know its sights better.

The photos were made with a very lo-fi approach. No Photoshop was used. I simply focussed on something close up and then took the photo of the monument a little farther off. The only further modification was with iPhoto (generally colour boosting). I hope they will brighten your day and incite you to explore the city that I still love so much.

There are 21 photos in all, currently being developed and framed for the fall. However, the blog is on holiday for most of July, so we’ll be using this time to let you discover one photo every day! Today’s photo, the first in the series, is…

… The Pompidou Centre, of course.

Enjoy the photos these next few weeks. The blog will be back proper on Monday 4th August. If you’re on holiday, have a great time too!
