Meet Diana and Holga in the new Paris Lomo shop
:: Hotels Paris Rive Gauche: we love photography
Not hip with the Lomo mojo? Wondering what we are even talking about? Well, Lomos are great, simple, point-and-click plastic cameras, and the new Paris Lomo shop has tons of them... and lots of other wacky and wonderful stuff...

If a plastic camera sounds a bit dodgy to you, think again. The Lomo takes wonderful colourful pictures, despite its simple mechanism. Sometimes a little light can leak onto the film inside, creating unusual and unexpected colours to infiltrate your shots. The random effects are part of the fun of the photos.
The Paris Lomo shop opened just before Xmas last year, and we were eager to get down there. Not only do they have a great travel theme (pushed to its kitsch limit), but they also sell other plastic cameras such as the Diana and the Holga. The latter was originally made in China, and has now become cherished for its lo-fi aesthetic. Blurring and light streaks are not uncommon, giving a real old school effect to your shots.
Although the Paris shop may be a little off the beaten track and hard to find (the front is almost completely obscured by the lift to the underground car park), we think it's worth it for the great décor and the incredible price of the cameras; only 40 euros for a Diana! In an age of digital photography, where we now see our photos straight away and know exactly what we are going to get, having real film developed after taking a shot that may or may not be in focus makes a wonderful change, and a lot of people are getting into it. Lomography is becoming a worldwide phenomenon (perhaps you'll be able to visit their shops in Vienna and Madrid too!).
Check out some photos of the Paris shop below, and then why not have a look at the rest at our Flickr gallery or check out a selection photos taken with Lomo cameras here.

Address: 6 place Franz Liszt, Paris 10th arrondissement. Métro Poissonière (line 7) or Gare de Nord (lines 4 & 5)
Open: Tuesday - Saturday, 11am - 7pm
