Balenciaga, l’œuvre au noir at the Musée Bourdelle, 8th March – 16th July 2017

The Palais Galliera, Paris’ fashion museum, inaugurates its Spanish Season with the exhibition Balenciaga, l’œuvre au noir at the Musée Bourdelle, a homage to Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972).

And luckily for you, it’s just a few minutes away from our hotels!

Here’s all the info.
He is known as the couturiers’ couturier – Balenciaga knew how to create a silhouette and volume like no-one else, and this new exhibition presented by the Palais Galliera (but not shown within their walls) shows his taste for the minimalist as much as the daring creativity needed to conceive his famous sack-dress in 1957.

While the accent is naturally on black, the exhibition also explores the importance of light in his work, and the careful, sparing use of colour.

The dresses are being shown mixed in with the Bourdelle Museum’s permanent collection, creating a dialogue with the sculptor’s work and showing how black can become a vibrant matter, by turns opaque or transparent, matt or shiny.

You’ll see evening dresses, day dresses, capes, coats, silk, velvet… In all, the exhibition presents around a hundred pieces from the Galliera collection and Balenciaga archives.
