The PHPA 2012 carte blanche by Magnum Photos

Our photo exhibition continues until the end of the month at the Galerie Esther Woerdehoff, and as well as the 12 photographers from Photo d’Hôtel, Photo d’Auteur (A Hotel Photo, An Artist’s View), it’s where you can discover the five photos we specially commissioned from the prestigious Magnum Photos agency.

Here’s a glimpse…

Each year, we commission an established photographer to create a new work specially for the exhibition, shown for the first time during the private inauguration, which is also when the annual prizes are handed out.

But this year we decided to give the ‘carte blanche’ over to one agency rather than one photographer, none other than the revered Magnum Photos agency. Five of their photographers were given a designated hotel to take a photo in, based on the theme of a song sung by Edith Piaf and Théo Sarapo, “À quoi çà sert l’amour” (What use is love).

Here are their photos. You can see them larger here, but coming to see them printed and hung in our exhibition really is worth it!
