210 metres up, on the Tour Monparnasse

OK, it’s a bit touristy, but if you don’t want to wait hours to get up the Eiffel Tower, the Tour Montparnasse is an alternative you should take into consideration. The view of Paris from up there are like no others (and if with a good-quality zoom, you’ll be able to take some amazing shots).

In fact there no more beautiful view in Paris, because from the Tour Montparnasse you can’t see… the Tour Montparnasse!

Here are our photos…

What a strange experience it is, going up the Tour Montparnasse.

After having paid 13 euros (not cheap) and meandered through some dismal corridors that definitely show their 70s origins, the lift takes less than 40 seconds to transport you to the 53rd floor where you will be shuffled out into the newly-renovated visitors centre.

As soon as you arrive, the over urgent young staff will do their best to force you to have your photo taken (in the hope you’ll buy the souvenir shot). We ran past them.

The to reach the roof, you have to take some more yucky-looking stairs up three floors, until finally, you’re on the roof.

And what a view…From up there, Paris really looks like a big capital city, although the countryside suddenly looks very close too. All the monuments are visible, all the parks too…Our little film shows the view towards the north. Bet seen in HD and fullscreen!

It’s true that it’s not cheap (13€ compared to 14€ for the Eiffel Tower which is 100 metres higher), but you won’t be disappointed, and the Tour Montparnasse is open late until 11.30pm in the summer (last ride up 30 minutes before closing). In fact, the sunset over Paris is amazing from up there…
